If I said, “best overwater villa,” what would you think? Calm, cool temperature waters, blue sky that spans into forever? One-piece bathing suits, big white floppy hats, and snorkeling? Me too. I also think: luxury and paradise. It always felt like it was something we couldn’t afford. Eric and I have developed some best practices to generate points and find the best redemption over the years. We like to use our AA flyer miles rewards to go to the furthest places to get the best redemption (and before the we have some kiddos of our own… those long flights would be no joke with kids!). We originally wanted to go to the Maldives on our honeymoon but we couldn’t find the right miles deal to get us there. Luckily for us, we were able to find a great airline mile redemption for our one-year wedding anniversary and find an unbelievable point redemption deal for this amazing overwater villa in the Maldives. What really brought us to the Maldives was the ultra modern overwater villa and the butler service. Check out our video above for the full overwater villa tour!

We wanted to share our experience staying at the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort… specifically, the ultra modern overwater villa! To get started, the entire resort is one of the most modern lodging we have seen and have the opportunity to stay in. It was like staying in a piece of art! You really felt transported into luxury when you arrived at the airport because of the transportation service with WiFi and the private lounge area with snacks and drinks free to order; our butler even recorded a greeting to us via iPad as soon as we arrived! The resort’s architecture was inspired by marine life and the local Maldivian culture. I thought the villas looked like artsy crabs but my husband just smiled and nodded his head. I’m guessing that was just me being me!

The Room

We walked in to find an enormous room, completed with glass doors that offered amazing ocean views and tons of natural light. We were almost worried about how much light was coming in since we both don’t sleep well even if there is one sliver of light but we were so relieved to find out about the black out curtains. More on that below! The lavish king-size bed was so comfortable to lounge and sleep in. They also had turn down service every day that was scheduled without you needing to by your butler based on when you went to dinner. There was a desk area and a mini living room area that we barely used but it was nice to know we had the option. I say barely used because we made sure to sit in every chair and go into every room possible! We weren’t sure when we would be back again… There was also a bar, refrigerator and FREE WATER you can bring with you anywhere on the atoll and resort. Remember that because water at the restaurants were $14 when we went and that was half the price of a personal pizza at their Crust restaurant. Your welcome! Additionally, let’s talk about the walk-in closet. It was half the size of our current bedroom! We also found out that our butler would unpack for us. At first we were worried about it, more so because we weren’t use to others packing or unpacking for us and also because we have no idea how we managed to pack as much as we did into two carry ons and two travel backpacks (that we love!)! Our butler reassured us and by the time we got back from lunch, everything was hung and put away. Lets just say we got use to that way too quickly…

The Bathroom

I’m trying to think of my favorite spot but I can’t pick just one. So here is my favorite spot INSIDE the villa: The Bathroom. The cream marble bathroom was the ultimate in sophistication. Double vanities complete with amenities like shampoo, conditioner, and SUNSCREEN AND ALOE! (I type that in all caps because we did not see this at first and spent $42 on one sunscreen bottle at the resort shop… Learn from our mistakes!) The shower is separate with a waterfall style shower head. Although the toilet room had a door, it was a clear door, so we would advise you close the walk-in closet door or the overall bathroom door for some privacy!

All of that doesn’t top the deep soaking bathtub. I have never been a “take a bath” person but this changed my mind on that completely. The Remède bath amenities made every pampering session beyond expectation. They gifted us a free bottle of brut, and since my husband doesn’t drink much, I was able to slowly drink it all by myself with gorgeous view of outside. Lounge away in bubble bliss while watching a show or watching the view from outside- your choice! For night time views, there was also a mirror next to it that was actually a TV. Yes, a mirror that was actually a TV. You have to check this out here. Maybe I haven’t gone out much but I got so excited! We watched Wreck It Ralph 2 covered in bubbles and soaking in Epsom salt. Perfect night <3

Smart Villa

Now my husband’s favorite part of the villa had to be how “smart” it was! At our house, we have (he has) installed over 15 smart lights, switches, and outlets, 8 interconnected smart speakers, two smart thermostats, and smart door lock & garage systems. The villa had an iPad room controller that let you customize all the lights (interior & exterior), the fans, the AC, and open & close the blinds (which we have been dying to install – hopefully in our next house!). Additionally you could play music or stream videos on the TV with a large built in speaker. Did I mention that you could command the TV to rotate towards you if you were in the living room vs. the bed? It was awesome.

Outdoor Terrace

The wooden terrace opens up with direct access to the ocean! Walk straight down into the Indian Ocean with your own private dock. Half-way up the stairs you’ll find an outside shower to wash off that sea salt before stepping into your private plunge pool! The pool was a little cool and gave infinity pool vibes with the waterfall edge. The terrace also has tons of lounge and seating options. A huge day bed (pictured below) with the most comfortable cushions, two loungers, and an outside dining table set makes it the perfect places to eat and hang out!

Now this is where my favorite outside part of the villa comes in: four seaside hammocks for your own personal use! Imagine hanging out for a few hours with the sea below you and the sky above you, watching a few fish swim by. If you were lucky like we were, we had an Eagle Ray swim by and say hello! We named him Spot. Spot was our friend. I tried out all four hammocks to see the different views, even bringing some of the day bed cushions with me to take a quick nap during one of our days there. We loved it so much we were thinking of investing in a regular hammock for our house even though we know it isn’t the same. It was so relaxing and best part- I didn’t have to reserve or ask anyone to move so that I can enjoy it because it was ours for the week!

Final Review

We absolutely loved staying at The St Regis Maldives Vommuli! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience of decadent and modern luxury. The service was exceptional. This was our first time utilizing the service of a butler and we were a little worried on how to handle it. Our butler, Yoojin, was amazing, responsive and very kind to us, responding promptly to our requests, day or night. We would highly recommend it for a romantic couple get-away. We were able to visit the Maldives and stay at The St Regis Malsives Vommuli all on points! We plan on writing about how we did that soon 🙂

Still curious? Did we leave anything out? Let us know below and we will answer any questions you have on our overwater villa experience!
